General Mills wanted to refresh an office that felt outdated and underutilised, creating a more inviting environment that would encourage employees to return. Axis Environments helped reshape the workspace around collaboration, flexibility and everyday comfort, while retaining and repurposing existing furniture wherever possible.

Creating Space for Collaboration

Showroom tours helped the team explore products and settings that would support different ways of working. Eight freestanding four-person meeting pods alongside NaughtOne’s Pullman booths introduced more opportunities for informal meetings and collaboration, giving employees greater choice in how and where they come together.
These additions made better use of the available space, creating places for discussion beyond the traditional meeting room.

Supporting Flexible Working

Replacing desk pedestals with lockers supported a move away from assigned desks, allowing employees to choose a workspace suited to their day. All desks were also replaced with sit-stand models, giving users the flexibility to alternate between sitting and standing.
Together, these changes created a more adaptable office that supports both individual work and shared activity.

Extending the Life of Existing Furniture

Furniture reuse formed part of the refurbishment. Existing meeting room tabletops were rewrapped, refreshing their appearance without replacing them, while other furniture items were repurposed within the updated layout.
By combining targeted investment with thoughtful reuse, the project reduced waste and extended the life of existing assets, bringing a fresh sense of purpose to the General Mills workplace.
