When Nordic Design House made the decision to open its first UK showroom in Clerkenwell, it set out to create a space that would showcase the strength of its Swedish furniture brands while reflecting the simplicity, quality and craftsmanship synonymous with Scandinavian design.

As experienced designers themselves, Nordic Design House led the creative vision for the showroom, establishing the desired look and feel. Axis Environments was appointed to deliver the fit-out, transforming that vision into a finished space that faithfully reflects the brand’s design ethos.

Transforming a Challenging Space

The existing premises presented a number of challenges. In a dilapidated condition, the space required extensive preparatory and refurbishment works before it could function as a high-quality showroom environment.

Working closely with the client, we carefully managed the transformation process, creating a robust foundation that would support both the aesthetic and practical requirements of the finished space.

Maximising Every Square Metre

With a relatively compact footprint, careful spatial planning was essential. Strategic zoning techniques were used throughout the showroom to maximise functionality while creating a greater sense of openness.

Distinct areas were established to showcase different furniture collections and customer experiences, allowing each piece to be displayed effectively without compromising the overall flow of the space. The result is a showroom that feels light, spacious and intuitive to navigate, despite its limited size.

A Showroom Designed for Impact

The completed showroom provides Nordic Design House with a welcoming and highly functional destination for clients, architects and designers. The space successfully balances practicality with refined Scandinavian aesthetics, creating an environment that highlights the quality of the furniture on display while strengthening the brand’s presence within London’s design community.
